Seagate was one of the first hard drive companies to bring a USB 3.0 product to market at CES 2010, with the introduction of the BlackArmor PS110 USB 3.0 performance kit. Then it made Superspeed connection an option on the GoFlex family of drives introduced in May 2010. Now, continuing in it’s tradition of being “light-years ahead,” Seagate has gone one step further—truly going where no hard disk drive has gone before—with today’s introduction of the new 1.5TB GoFlex ultra-portable drive bundled with USB 3.0 connectivity, a free copy of “Star Trek” and the option to purchase up to 20 other films.
USB 3.0 promises speeds more than 10 times as fast as USB 2.0, making the transfer of content such as video files incredibly fast. This capability becomes even more desirable as video and film continues to move from high-definition to 3D, picture file sizes increase with camera resolution, and camcorders move from standard-definition (SD) to high-definition (HD). As file size increases for the most commonly used mediums, it’s not unreasonable to think consumers have grown increasingly impatient with how long it takes to transfer the contents of their computer files and folders. To help put this in perspective, a drive using a USB 3.0 connection can transfer a 25GB file in under five minutes versus the 14 minutes it would take using a traditional USB 2.0 drive. That’s a big time savings!
Now, it’s worth noting that in order to get the faster performance, you’ll have to use USB 3.0 product with compatible computers and laptops, but several companies—such as ASUS—have already began shipping USB 3.0 products to stores and a flood of new products are expected to follow. In fact, IDC predicts that USB 3.0 is poised to supplant USB 2.0 eventually and become the dominant interface in the market over the next two years. If that’s not soon enough for you, the good news is that all USB 3.0 devices are backwards compatible, meaning that they’ll work with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices. Those devices just won’t see the speed increase that USB 3.0-enabled products will enable.
And to top it off…talk about a movie collector’s dream: a hard drive that comes pre-loaded with digital content, with the interface to transfer even MORE films in less than half the time, AND provides the mind-blowing capacity and portability to carry complete libraries of high-definition films with you wherever you go!

I will be using the 1.5TB and super USB 3.0 to transfer multimedia projects to various locations. With the time I save, I will have more opportunities to get to know the Asus Eee PC 1018.
I could use this in my classroom!
Since USB 3.0 is based on bi-directional data transfer, it will take less time to transfer datas, programs between two devices. Due to this feature i can save my time and use the other time for other works.
About 1 TB harddisk. I think i easily can fill up that storage. I am an student of computer Engineering of POKHARA ENGINEERING COLLEGE, NEPAL. I am interested in technical field and also in collecting the various softwares and trying them.
Except the entertaining files i would fill the remaining space with the softwares. I want to collect softwares from old version to the latest upgraded versions so that i could study them.
Me Narayan Joshi of Mohariyatole, Pokhara, Nepal
I would love this 1018 as a backup pc for all of my music. Music to go baby!!! Also, whatever video games it would play would be awesome too. Movies could be a distant third. That 1.5TB drive is hugemungous. I’m sure it would take a long time to fill that baby up!!!
I’m a home brewer and I’d use the pc for automation and monitoring. I’m also documenting what I do so I can publish how to pages with video to help out new home brewers. All those pictures and video use up a ton of space, so the new drive would be put to great use
how will you use USB 3.0? How will you fill up 1.5TB? What are your favorite features on the ASUS Eee PC 1018P?
Hmm- i have 2 250 seagates in this old dinosaur and they are running strogn- Seagate is by far the best out there. If I had a USB 3.0 it would be a super duper upgrade! And 1.5TB? My goodness I could store everything on there- pictures, movies, music on and on.
My fav features are the POWER, SPEED and EASE of use- something this old desktop doesnt have.
I follow you on Facebook & Twitter!
The drive will be used for storing huge collection of software & multimedia file, where as 3.0 high speed usb will be used for DJ usb consoles/midi controlers which will give perfect accuracy for me!!
Simply stated:
The ULTIMATE travel set up bar none!
Like
I would transfer all the movies I currently have onto the 1.5
If I won it I’d most likely keep the HDD to use with my new Asus 1215n netbook and I’d give that 1018p netbook to a friend since mines faster lol
haha I just realized its over before it begun. It was worth a shot!!
I’m a cybercrimes investigator – the combination of netbook portability, usb 3.0 speed and huge storage capacity would readily allow for in the field acquisition evidence. Given that suspect drives routinely have betweeen 500GB and 1TB of data I have no doubt that the drive will get filled up in a heartbeat.
With the usb 3.0 downloading to the 1.5TB will be up to 10 times faster! and i finally get get rid of some space of my laptop
Hey, this is what I always wanted, I am planning to buy the media player from seagate, and this would be just great if I win this, so I can play all my HD MOVIES, PHOTOS, FILE TRANSFER, life would be much easier with this
.
If I was so lucky to win the 1.5TB GoFlex ultra-portable drive, pre-loaded with Paramount Pictures Films and bundled with a blazingly fast USB 3.0 connection, along with a new ASUS 10.1” Eee PC 1018P, then I could better help my friends resolve their PC issues by having the tools so much needed, as I don’t have a PC of my own or a large hard drive that is blazing fast here! Yes, it’s really a sad experience to be without. I have to depend on a bootable CD (Hiren), but that doesn’t work on Netbooks, when your friend has only USB!
The 1.5TB GoFlex could save all a lot of my friends backup files (backup images), which usually are about 10-15GB after compression, making my task a lot easier to restore their PC later! The Asus Eee PC 1018P I haven’t tried honestly, but it’s small like the hard drive, making it much easier to bring along with me! It seems like a really nice package made just for me to use! Please pick me! (hint) + (wink) !
I’ve been using external hard drives since they were the size of a washing machine, a platter really was the size of a dinner platter, and Al Shugart didn’t even know what a gig was. I began using external Seagate drives since they fit on my desk, and in the safe; and began using the Black Armor encrypted hard drives when I started taking business overseas, where my private data had to stay private.
Since retiring, I’ve gone paperless, and have been putting my entire life – records, photos, documents, etc. – on an external hard drive. A new Eee Pc 1018p laptop – small, lightweight, super fast, and cloud connectable, with plenty of storage – is just what I need to hit the road and sky with my life in hand.
I would give it to my son who is a senior in college. He loves photography and movies so I know he would love to fill it up with those two hobbies.
i would use the laptop as a travel/gone from the house pc and the harddrive for regular backup I need this deal, ohhh my God this is my opportunity
I would use it in my work with Wounded Warriors here at Ft. Bragg NC. The 3.0 drive would help me to make quick work of my file transfers for my training packages/videos. The computer would be great as well for the extensive road work that I encounter on my training trips.
Hi. As im working with a lots of videodatas, music and pictures, i would use it as my external HDD and why this one? Bcs of high speed using USB 3.0, useful for fast preparing of my videos and bcs of saving of energy – i need to store and prepare datas only if i need them
And netbook i´d use for my online trading, bcs of long battery life. (im crazy for saving energy)
i like the full size buttons on the laptop and i will store all my vacation photos into the 1.5tb. So is into the usb 3.0. entry form for the acer laptop plx.
I’d probably just use this to add to my RAID setup so that I can secure my data with even MORE space
I’d load up this drive with the drive images that I’ve downloaded through my MSDNAA membership, and use it as a secure installation unit for the laptop.
I can only imagine how much more efficiently I could be swapping back and forth between OSs and coding environments while I’m learning additional fundamental programming languages.
1.5T and USB 3 …feature is amzing….i would use it for my favourate movie collection (Blue ray featured) and my educational materail (video tutorial more than 300 Gb)…..
yahoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
The new ASUS netbook is the best rated netbook…My favorite features of the 1018p is the compact size, lightweight, and the comfortable keyboard given the size. I love how ultra thin it is and the layout of the flat keyboard with raised buttons…it really makes it much more easier to type.Adding to the amazing 9 hour battery life; i’ve never used any netbook with such an amazing battery life..ASUS is amazing as i’ve used my friend’s Eee PC 1010 and really enjoyed the experience. Of course the highlight is the USB 3.0. I also own the previous Seagate portable hard drives but nothing would beat a 1.5 TB USB 3.0 hard drive, I have to continually backup data and its annoying when transferring GBs of data takes so long. It would be instant pleasure using USB 3.0 with the large capacity hard drive to have all my backup in one place; a whoooping 1.5 TB!!!! Wooo HOOO…Amazing I can have all my data in one place & take it with me to work & back whenever needed…This is one awesome giveaway I cannot stop dreaming of!
This sounds perfect as a present for my girlfriend since I’ve been looking for a small laptop and an external hard-drive. Since she loves movies and since this one is very fast at transferring them to and from the external hard-drive, i think she’ll be very thrilled!
I’d use the HDD to store all my photos, music and programs, so I won’t be needing all my old dvd’s anymore. I’m drawing a lot too so I’ll be storing my work as well. The laptop has a nice look and I think it’s pretty thin; will use it for internet access outside the house and when I’ll go to college. I’m going in another city so I wasn’t thinking of taking my desktop computer with me.
Hello. I am an Engineering Student (Chemical) and presently I have an HP 6515b having 1GB RAM and 80 GB Hard disk. The present laptop has really served me well all these 3 years. But sometimes,it really becomes very difficult for me to manage things and carry on my works smoothly. 1 GB RAM is negligible now and 80 GB memory space isn’t that great either.
Kudos
Being from Chemical Engineering, I need to learn a variety of software programs and many other things for which my laptop just makes a long face and says “NO”. Today, I hesitantly installed Aspen Plus which is in fact my 1st software related to my field of study. Thank God, its running fine but after seeing the above cited products, I think a whole new world is waiting for me. 1.5TB GoFlex ultra-portable drive, pre-loaded with Paramount Pictures Films and bundled with a blazingly fast USB 3.0 connection, along with a new ASUS 10.1” Eee PC 1018P with a USB 3.0 port will give me freedom to learn, grow, and share at a speed to which only a Federer Serve can give some hard times.
Wow, I could fit all my media files, create a system to go, maybe even some VMs & perhaps backups of my home systems so I wouldn’t worry about something happening to the house! Trust me, this drive would become my new BFF – inseparable!
A 1.5 TB hard drive would make an excellent reason to start video editing or photo shooting. If not that, it could be a great gift.
Wow, most of the things we use today are getting more and more technologically advance, from speed to capacity and ease of use…
What features? The new ASUS Eee PC 1018P introduce what we know today as the most advance and the highest level we can get for the netbook scale can offer, it has the WIFI 802.11n, the 9-hour battery life from a 4-cell battery, and most of all the new hi-speed data transfer interface the USB 3.0, and i love them all!!!
To match this netbook with 1.5tb external drive with USB 3.0 data transfer will make it more exciting to use, in fact the 1.5tb isn’t enough for me, how about introducing an enclosure that can house multiple 1.5tb-2tb drive with the binding capability that will show the drive in it as only one drive…
I am a video collector of movies and documentaries and I have 2 1.5tb that almost filled up with ripped movies and documentaries….
It will be more exciting if this kind of hardware will be introduce to individual user….
More power and best of luck to the SEAGATE!
I have countless amounts of large data files to fill up the space and the usb 3.0 will definately help with transferring that data. I like the way the laptop has usb3.0 and its neat and compact.
Hi, I’m a professional photographer, I often work at arts and music festivals which require me to be able to process and back-up large amounts of photographic and film data on the move, and quickly – which to-date has involved ongoing technical problems – mostly involving memory and transfer rates – however, the Asus 1080P and goflex portable drive bundle honestly sounds like the best solution to these problems. furthermore, how impressed will my clients be when they see their high resolution images on this stunning laptop – more so – when they appear in an instant and without that all too familiar dying computer groan which haunts me currently!
Hi
I have never won anything that I have entered for and this would be ideal for our family and take away ALL the disappointments of past entries
I am 64 years of age with disabillities and this would give me an ideal opportunity to store All our memories for our children and grand-childrens
Thankyou for the opportunity to enter this Fantastic and well worth
competition
Jim
I would never need a new hard drive!
I would use it for when I’m on the road photographing funerals for the families of our fallen heroes which I’ve been doing over 7 years now for free. Here is a story from 3 years ago: http://www.iraqwarheroes.org/news070107.htm . I’m always needing more Hard drive Space. Just filled another FreeAgent 1500gb drive.
Q
Well probably movies, because everything, going digital now, and to have it steaming over usb 3.0 would be excellent!!
Wow! this product looks very useful with a great look! Must have!
I would use the Ee PC to store pictures and video of my 21 month old son. Then I would use the blazing speeds of USB 3.0 to backup my Ee PC and all of the countless videos and pictures that I take while chasing him around!
as extensive user of my DV camera, each year I have between 50 and 300GB raw DV data, add 100 GB of digital photos- so no problem to fill many disks.
I`d use it for school because i cant afford a laptop. i`d use the storage for storing my music, videos and school assignments on it.
I would use it to backup my network.
I love to take pictures! With something this big, I wouldn’t have to worry about running out of space.
it is great and very good.ı love seagate. ı hope ı will win the 1.5TB drive with USB 3.0
As a person with hobbies that range from everything sports (watching and participating), music (playing and listening), do it yourself projects (learning and doing), and a lover of life the amount of things I can do with this prize package are limitless. I already own 2 Seagate drives for my music and pictures respectively; I can really use one where I can compact all of my files to one drive. I also have software’s that take a massive amount of space on my laptop, my laptop is no longer at its top performance peak; it may be on its last laps in this circle of life
But they say that when one thing dies, something else is born; hopefully it’s the ‘ASUS 10.1” Eee PC 1018P’ that comes with a USB 3.0 port! Sweet! You guys hit it on the head! Although most of my friends will tell you that I usually have a lot of patience, I HAVE grown rather impatient with the time it takes to transfer my favorite files. Time is money and I can definitely use some big time savings!
Oh, and one more thing! I am currently teaching myself how to program using C++ and the latest programming software’s. Although my field is business, I have always had a high level of interest in gaining knowledge in programming. I can use the space on the ’1.5TB GoFlex ultra-portable drive’ to keep all of the new programs I look forward to writing and coding with my newly acquired skill, maybe I can create the greatest thing since sliced bread, well technologically speaking at least!
I’d use this 1.5 TB drive as a home data repository to store all my catalogued data, video, picture files and pc images. The feature I like most on the ASUS Eee PC 1018P is the USB 3.0 and it light weight. My new laptop was recently stolen so I can really use a laptop right now.
