News flash – Your DVR is a hard drive!!
Wait, maybe you knew that already. It may not be something you think about, but it’s true. Basically, your digital video recorder (DVR) allows you to record movies and shows from your TV to the drive inside the box, then allowing you to access it at any time. Because the content is recorded in real time, this is how you’re able to pause or rewind any time during the presentation.
And this is just for television. Services like HBO GO or Netflix also leverage storage as a means of entertainment by housing all the content for on demand viewing. The ability to stream content is server based. Take a look at the graphic below courtesy of How Stuff Works on the process of streaming video.
Notice items 2 and 3? Yup, that’s storage.
Jumping back to TV for a moment, the advances in technology have had a huge impact on how we watch our favorite programs. We’ve quickly adapted to the anytime/anywhere model that only having a reliable, storage foundation can provide.
Regardless of whether it’s through TV, movies or even music, storage will always entertain you.
