Good Things Come in Small Packages – 5mm To Be Exact

Never has this old adage ringed truer.

In case you missed the memo, Seagate recently held an analyst event where our CEO, Steve Luzco, unveiled our 2.5” 5mm hard drive currently in development.  It’s expected that 7mm 2.5” drives will continue to grow into Ultrabook environments and the 5mm will be a follow on to the 7mm adoption.

The 500 GB prototype drive at the event was used to power the computer that ran keynote presentations.  As if that weren’t enough, the device was then pulled out and shown first hand to key attendees at the conference.

But before the meeting took place, we were able to get some pictures of the drive to showcase how amazingly thin and compact it is. Ultrabooks are about to get a big boost in power and stability when these devices hit the market next year.  An official announcement with further details will be made when the product is ready for release, but meanwhile, check out the pictures below to see for yourself how thin this drive will be.
