It’s the End of the Year As We Know It

If there is one thing I’ve never cared for it’s the “end of the year” recaps that seem to permeate the media as we draw closer to New Years. We get a slew of best of lists for music, movies, games, fashion, toys, television shows, smartphone apps, Facebook status, Twitter photos and everything else that can be compiled.

I guess there is a natural curiosity to see how something performed compared to something else, but I’ve always been one to look forward, not backward. Content gets pumped out so quickly that it’s very easy to grab hold of whatever shiny object is immediately grabbing our attention.

Take video games for instance, I remember following the development of a game called Dishonored that I was interested in playing upon release. In classic gaming industry fashion, Dishonored released the first week of October, which typically is the start of the holiday game release frenzy. While the game reviewed very well, unless you were paying attention, it got lost in the shuffle of other blockbuster releases including Borderlands 2, Assassin’s Creed III, Halo 4 and more.

Since we’re still a few weeks away from the biggest gift-giving day of the year I wanted to highlight a few hidden entertainment gems from 2012 that you may want to wrap up, put a bow on and share with family or friends.

Stronger by Kate Earl

There you have it. To quote Ferris BuellerLife moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

A lot happened this year and there’s no sign of things slowing down. In a couple weeks it’ll be January and we’ll be looking ahead at things to come for the year like the moves we make or the steps we take that’ll get us from day-to-day and achieve our goals.  Life happens whether we’re ready for it or not. Just make sure you don’t miss it.
